A space to heal and create

Marnin Studio is a therapeutic healing space where women come to create, learn and relax. The space is an incubator for developing products that reflect the artist’s deep knowledge of the local environment, culture and community.

The studio combines a strength-based, community led, therapeutic approach to empowerment.Through this social enterprise model, the women have the opportunity to reach financial stability through the sale of their products.

The Studio is based at Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre in Fitzroy Crossing, the heart of the Kimberley, Western Australia.
‘Marnin’ means women in Walmajarri language as the studio is driven by the vision of local Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Wankatjunka, Walmajarri and Nykina women.

Marnin Studio continues to grow and connect women through the creation of exquisite pieces sold on a local and national level.

Inspired by country

The products are inspired by the seasonal movements including the colours, textures, flora and fauna of the Fitzroy Valley region. The products often reflect cultural knowledge of what can be eaten, hunted or used as bush medicine, proving to be a modern way to preserve and pass on cultural knowledge.

This process of connecting to country,  provides the opportunity for local women to connect with language, stories and memories.

The artists create designs to produce a homewares range that is unique to the region.
